HOBO MX802 Direct Read Bluetooth Water Data Logger

The HOBO MX802 is a Bluetooth-enabled multiparameter water data logger designed for applications where convenient data offload without removing sensors from the water is a priority. Unlike the fully submersible MX801, the MX802 is designed to remain above the water surface while compatible W-Series sensors are deployed underwater via cable — making it ideal for installations where the logger needs to remain accessible, such as monitoring wells, bridges, docks, or fixed infrastructure. The MX802 is IP67/NEMA 6 weatherproof (with sensor or termination plug attached) and constructed from PVC with passivated 316 stainless steel hardware rated for use in saltwater environments. Setup, configuration, and data offload are handled wirelessly via Bluetooth using the free HOBOconnect app on a compatible mobile device or Windows computer. Four user-replaceable AA lithium batteries provide up to 2 years of typical battery life. Memory supports up to 730,000 measurements with flexible logging modes including fixed interval, burst, and up to 8 user-defined logging intervals. Compatible sensors (sold separately) include the W-CT Conductivity/Temperature sensor, W-CTD Conductivity/Temperature/Depth sensors (available in four depth ranges), and the W-DO Dissolved Oxygen/Temperature sensor. Sensor cables are available in lengths from 1.0m to 60m (custom lengths also available).

Customer Questions
Can water level data loggers be used for monitoring both fresh and saltwater environments?
Using Data Loggers in Freshwater and Saltwater Environments Whether you’re monitoring the chill of a deep freshwater lake or the relentless tides of an ocean bay, there are data logger options equipped to thrive. Many robust temperature and depth loggers...
What is the difference between the MX801 and MX802?
The MX801 is fully submersible (IP68, waterproof to 100m with sensor attached) and is deployed directly in the water along with the sensor. The MX802 is designed to remain above the water surface while the sensor is deployed underwater via a cable, allowing...
Can I connect two sensors to one logger at the same time?
Yes. With the optional W-ADAPT-2 2-Sensor Adapter, you can connect any two W-Series sensors (DO, CT, or CTD) to a single MX801 or MX802 logger simultaneously. This allows you to monitor multiple parameters — for example, dissolved oxygen and conductivity...
How is data downloaded from the logger?
Data is downloaded wirelessly via Bluetooth using the HOBOconnect app on a compatible mobile device or Windows computer. For the MX801, the logger must be retrieved from the water to be within Bluetooth range. For the MX802, data can be offloaded without...
How much data can the logger store?
The logger stores up to 730,000 measurements across all active channels (4 MB memory). The number of measurements per channel depends on how many sensors and parameters are being recorded simultaneously.
What logging modes are available?
The logger supports fixed interval logging (normal or statistics), burst logging, and multiple interval logging with up to 8 user-defined logging intervals and durations with pause capability — providing flexibility for a wide range of monitoring applications...
What type of batteries does the logger use and how long do they last?
The logger uses four AA 1.5V lithium batteries, which are user-replaceable in the field. With W-CT or W-CTD sensors at a 1-minute logging interval, battery life is typically 2 years. With the W-DO sensor at a 5-minute logging interval, battery life is...
Are these loggers rated for use in saltwater?
Yes. The logger housing is constructed from PVC with passivated 316 stainless steel hardware, and all wetted materials are rated for use in saltwater environments. The CTD and CT sensors also use passivated 316 stainless steel housings with Viton and...
What is the water depth rating for the MX802?
The MX802 is rated IP67/NEMA 6 weatherproof when a sensor cable or termination plug is attached. It is not designed to be submerged — the logger is intended to remain above the water surface at all times.
What parameters does the W-DO sensor measure?
The W-DO sensor measures dissolved oxygen concentration and temperature. It is designed for environmental monitoring, watershed research, aquaculture, and water quality compliance applications.
How does battery life differ with the dissolved oxygen sensor compared to conductivity sensors?
The W-DO sensor consumes more power than the W-CT and W-CTD sensors. Typical battery life with the W-DO sensor is approximately 1 year at a 5-minute logging interval, compared to approximately 2 years for the W-CT and W-CTD sensors at a 1-minute interval...
Is there a guard available to protect the sensors from biofouling?
Yes. An optional copper antifouling guard (W-GUARD-1) is available and is designed to slow biofouling growth on the conductivity sensor, extending the time between cleaning intervals while maintaining good water flow to the sensor. It is easy to install...
What cables are available for the MX802?
W-Series sensor cables are available in standard lengths of 1.0m, 2.0m, 5.0m, 10m, 15m, 30m, and 60m. Custom cable lengths are also available. Contact us for custom length pricing.
